Guide: FFXIV Combat Classes and the Crafting Skills They Need

In FFXIV, NPCs don't sell high rank equips, and mobs don't drop such equips, too. Then where to get better gears when you reach higher level? The crafting classes. In FFXIV, everyone could learn those crafting skills freely, so mastering one or two crafting skills will be good for you, at least you could repair your own equips in the wild at anytime. (Why not learn more? Coz you don't have so much time, you are still combat classes, right?)

The crafting system is not complicated. Each 48 hours system will provide 8 free quests for you so that if you finish them all your crafting skills will raise to rank 5, and in a week you will improve the skills to rank 10.

Next I will provide some tips of the best crafting skills you need to learn.


Gladiator: blacksmith and armorer

In early times most of your weapons are made by blacksmith, and obviously Gladiator uses heavy armors so armorer will be your 2nd choice.


Marauder: mainly blacksmith , then fisherman, miner or carpenter

You definitely could make axes yourself if you are a blacksmith,but to make higher rank ones, you need materials from fishing. If you don;t like fishing, you could be a miner or carpenter to get other raw materials of axes.


Pugilist: Mainly leatherworker, then blacksmith or goldsmith
Most of your equips are made by leathworker, some of them are made by blacksmith and goldsmith. Pugilist is the class who need most leatherworker's works.


Lancer: Mainly carpenter, then alchemist, blacksmith or goldsmith
Spears are made by carpenter, but making shaft need materials form alchemy, and the tip and stock need blacksmith and goldsmith skills.


Archer: Mainly carpenter, then leatherworker or weaver
In early times, Archer will always be short of money because your weapons will cost so much money. Carpenter skills will help you fix your bow and weaver skills could make arrows.


Thaumaturge: Mainly goldsmith, then weaver
You need goldsmith skills to make weapons and weaver skills to make armors and accessories.


Conjurer: Mainly carpenter, then alchemist
Carpenter skills for basic weapons, alchemist skills for higher rank items.
